Welcome to Curt’s View

In this time of strife, conflict brewed by disinformation, I believe we should have more communication, not less. We can’t fold our cards, retire to our bunkers, and succumb to the dark forces that seek to divide us. To that end, we should discuss our political views and engage in social commentary.

The intention of this blog is to connect, to reignite dialogue between the foxholes, and to recognize and unearth our shared humanity. It is only by communication that barriers can be shattered, offering paths back to common ground, disinformation vacuumed out.

“Being taught to avoid talking about politics and religion has led to a lack of understanding of politics and religion. What we should have been taught was how to have a civil conversation about a difficult topic.” ~ Ryan Fournier

Hate Speech Is Disinformation

Hate Speech Is Disinformation

Disinformation divides us, it serves up scapegoats for whatever ails us. Scapegoats act as smokescreens to prevent us from seeing the real source of our anxiety, our poverty, our disenfranchisement.
Help is Part of Our Basic Nature

Help is Part of Our Basic Nature

Americans love to help. There is some primordial urge deep in our soul that seeks an outlet for this altruistic imperative. We are at our best when we help., when we comfort the afflicted, the most vulnerable, provide aid, hope, and comfort. It is therapeutic and restorative, and it helps to heal our souls.
The Drug Industrial Complex

The Drug Industrial Complex

We as a society condoned mediocrity, a lowering of the bar, fueled by the Drug Industrial Complex. Because it is legal, we let the pot industry, the vaping industry, the pharmaceutical industry set the bar as to our aspirations and dreams.
Slowing Down to See The Beauty Around Us

Slowing Down to See The Beauty Around Us

By slowing down you begin to see the inherent goodness of people; you begin to see their soul, which always responds to kindness, love, and truth. The beauty that surrounds us is hiding in plain sight.
The Trump Divide

The Trump Divide

We can’t surrender to this Trump divide. We have to roll up our sleeves and go into the bunkers and engage in civil, political discourse. People are innately good, and our country’s healing can begin when we tap into that goodness—all the while cleansing our airwaves of the Russian memes.
Really, Steven Miller?

Really, Steven Miller?

The Trump administration is now targeting kids with cancer, terminal illnesses, sabotaging their lifelines in some cruel revenge agenda. Who even conceives of such cruelty—I suspect it is Stephen Miller, Trump’s immigration consigliere.
The Sad Relationship Between Misogyny and Violence

The Sad Relationship Between Misogyny and Violence

In continuing our lively discussion on gun control, one element we have not discussed is the factor of misogyny. From the Handmaids Tale: “Someone once said men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.”
The Russian Troll Factory

The Russian Troll Factory

The Russian troll factory was designed to sabotage our democracy; their intent was to divide us, to create racial disharmony, and to elect Donald Trump. They have infected our airwaves and this infestation disables honest dialogue because the conversations are saturated with false data, disinformation.
Honoring the Victims of Gun Violence

Honoring the Victims of Gun Violence

Well, another day, another shooting, and another recitation of ‘thoughts and prayers’ by our Republican Congressmen and Representatives. Our administration’s chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, said now is not the time to discuss gun violence. Didn’t he say that after the previous shooting?
I believe…

I believe…

I believe that racism is a cancer that has infected American from its inception, that America will never be made whole until we confront its history, its structure, its perpetuation and its manipulation by politicians who seek to divide us.
