Welcome to Curt’s View

In this time of strife, conflict brewed by disinformation, I believe we should have more communication, not less. We can’t fold our cards, retire to our bunkers, and succumb to the dark forces that seek to divide us. To that end, we should discuss our political views and engage in social commentary.

The intention of this blog is to connect, to reignite dialogue between the foxholes, and to recognize and unearth our shared humanity. It is only by communication that barriers can be shattered, offering paths back to common ground, disinformation vacuumed out.

“Being taught to avoid talking about politics and religion has led to a lack of understanding of politics and religion. What we should have been taught was how to have a civil conversation about a difficult topic.” ~ Ryan Fournier

Voter Suppression Bills

Voter Suppression Bills

After the 2020 election Republicans introduced over 250 voter suppression bills, mostly aimed at communities of color, making me realize that the cancer Trump exploited was still breathing, simmering, waiting for the next demigod to ignite the cesspool.
Intentional Cruelty: A Tale of Two Meetings

Intentional Cruelty: A Tale of Two Meetings

In early May 2018, eleven senior advisers of the Trump administration were called to the White House Situation Room. A month earlier, the Trump administration had launched the “zero tolerance” immigration policy, effecting parents with small children.
Orwell & Trump’s “Brave New World”

Orwell & Trump’s “Brave New World”

Trump meets most of the criteria of Orwell’s 1944 definition of fascism: “Something cruel, unscrupulous, arrogant, obscurantist, anti-liberal and anti-working-class… almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘fascist’.”
History of Voter Suppression

History of Voter Suppression

Voter suppression for African-Americans began when their right to vote was pure fantasy. When our founding fathers were crafting our Constitution, the issue of voting rights was raised, and Afro-Americans were deemed to be ¾ of a person, which was a step up from slavery…or not.
I’m Tired of Trump’s Hitleresque Actions

I’m Tired of Trump’s Hitleresque Actions

As stated in earlier posts, there is an unfortunate parallel to the Trump phenomenon and Hitler’s blueprint. Just when I say to myself it’s all a coincidence, that he doesn’t mean what he says, or doesn’t mean what he retweets, or that his motives are altruistic, then something like this happens:
Racism and Racehorse Theory, What’s Your Line in the Sand?

Racism and Racehorse Theory, What’s Your Line in the Sand?

As Trump’s layers of racism has been striped over the years, what has emerged is the foundation upon which his racism arises from. He believes he has superior genes, springs from superior stock. He believes in the ‘racehorse theory’.
Cruelty and Evil Do Not Belong in Government

Cruelty and Evil Do Not Belong in Government

Evil is hard to confront. Yet a Trump administration lawyer has disputed in court whether detained migrant children are entitled to toothbrushes and soap. This breaks my heart. This level of cruelty and evil sends a chill up my spine.
The Disinformation Pandemic

The Disinformation Pandemic

We are in the midst of a disinformation pandemic. I often have conversations with Trump supporters, but their idea of a debate is to send me a link, oftentimes emanating from Russia.
Nazism and Fascism Require Enablers to Succeed

Nazism and Fascism Require Enablers to Succeed

It had dawned on German citizens after WWII they were enablers; they realized the deadly consequences of their silence, which served to lubricate the wheels of mass executions.
The Stormtroopers of Portland

The Stormtroopers of Portland

We had a secret band of stormtroopers unleashed in this country, employing  tactics eerily similar to Hitler’s personal security force, the SS, evidenced by the swat teams Trump has assembled in Portland: peaceful demonstrators are being tear-gassed and whisk away in unmarked cars by unmarked, masked agents.
Yes, We Have Institutional Racism. But This Feels Different

Yes, We Have Institutional Racism. But This Feels Different

Dr. King only became truly dangerous when he started to speak about world-wide institutional racism structures designed to protect the entrenched power, when he talked about empowering the working poor... Two months later he was assassinated.
Hate Speech Is Disinformation

Hate Speech Is Disinformation

Disinformation divides us, it serves up scapegoats for whatever ails us. Scapegoats act as smokescreens to prevent us from seeing the real source of our anxiety, our poverty, our disenfranchisement.
