Honoring the Victims of Gun Violence

Well, another day, another shooting, and another recitation of ‘thoughts and prayers’ by our Republican Congressmen and Representatives. Our administration’s chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, said now is not the time to discuss gun violence. Didn’t he say that after the previous shooting?

Well, another day, another shooting, and another recitation of ‘thoughts and prayers’ by our Republican Congressmen and Representatives.

Our administration’s chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, said now is not the time to discuss gun violence.

Didn’t he say that after the previous shooting?

I guess if the mass shootings continue, there will never be time for meaningful dialogue on this issue. Right now, Senator McConnell is sitting on 100 bills that he refuses to bring up for a vote in the Senate, including gun control legislation.

This raises the question: at what point can McConnell be charged with manslaughter? I think it’s a fair question: he knows the carnage will continue and he chooses to do nothing.

Twenty years since Columbine, America averages one mass shooting a day.

A Day!!!

Since Sandy Hook, we have allowed 2043 mass shootings to occur.

What is the body count of American lives that it will take for Republican lawmakers to stand up to the NRA and pass gun control legislation?

Just give me a number so we can alert the children, that we choose the NRA and gun manufacturer’s profits over their lives. Gun control laws work. There’s no debate on that fact any longer. Now people will say that the Second Amendment is being trampled upon, that the taking away of guns is the first step to tyranny. I could have more respect for these gun advocates if they didn’t cherry-pick the Amendments. For example, where is the outrage from these people for the sabotaging of the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments? Citizens from all over the country are being denied their right to vote, which is the bedrock of our democracy.

Where is the outrage?

This latest shooter had a silencer. Second Amendment advocates wail about gun control and not being able to hunt—nobody wants to take your rifle away. But when someone goes deer hunting, do they really need a silencer? Aren’t they already at a competitive advantage…I mean, they have a gun and the deer doesn’t. I mean, really, how much more do hunters need to tip the scales? (It’s like Kevin Durant joining the Warriors. Couldn’t help myself: I always root for the underdogs—deer, the Toronto Raptors, defenseless kids.)

AFTER SANDY HOOK, WE SAID NEVER AGAIN. AND THEN WE LET 2,043 MASS SHOOTINGS HAPPEN. (Gunpolicy.org United Nations Development Programme.)

After Sandy Hook, we said never again. And then we let 2,043 mass shootings happen.

“One of those killed at Borderline — his name was Telemachus Orfanos — also had been in Las Vegas when a gunman there went on a rampage last year. That this young man survived the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history, only to die in another slaughter, speaks volumes about gun violence in the United States and the unspeakable failure of national lawmakers to do anything.”

His mother: “My son was in Las Vegas with a lot of his friends, and he came home. He didn’t come home last night, and I don’t want prayers. I don’t want thoughts. I want gun control, and I hope to God nobody sends me any more prayers. I want gun control. No more guns.”

Below is a partial list of executed Americans that has occurred since Columbine. This list only runs through 2018. The 2019 tally is at a staggering level so far.
